Rock and Roll Baby!

The big news for this week is that Ruby is trying her hardest to get going. She has caused herself an injury by pushing herself around the room - with her head down - she has carpet burn on her knees and on her head! Mummy will have to buy her some head gear.

Ruby has also had a great week with her solids and is now eating two meals a day. Mummy had to increase the amount she was giving Ruby as she couldn't stand the tears when the bowl was finished. Ruby loves her rice cereal and potatoes but is not fussed on carrots. Mummy is going to try mixing the carrots with her favourite potatoes to see if that will help. With all the eating, Ruby has put on another 200 grams this week, taking her up to 7.5kg (that's naked Sylvia, she would have weighed at least 8kg on Sunday when your sore back was ignored for a cuddle!!).

There also looks like there is a third tooth on the way. Mummy found a cut in her top gum on Monday - still no sign of the tooth. Ruby is not to amused with people looking in her mouth, mummy thinks that the more you look the slower the teeth come.

Ruby has had a big week with mummy taking her all over the place visiting friends and family. Ruby even had a trip to the Gallery of Modern Art to see Picasso with Aunty Porsha. Not sure how much Ruby took in but she shocked everyone and just sat in her jeep and kept quite the whole way around. Although, mummy got in trouble by two security guards for having her water bottle open in the gallery. Gosh could you imagine the explanation for how a Renoir or Picasso got wet or better still ended up with Bonjela on it.

Go the LIONS!

Earlier this week mummy dressed Ruby up as the cutest Lions supporter ever and then took lots of photos and entered her in a competition she has no hope of winning. Is this child abuse????

Ruby has finally remembered how to sleep at night, hooray! She is sleeping from around 6:30pm until 3:30am and then back down until 7:30am. It wasn't just a one off either, she has been doing this since last Thursday. The only downside is that she didn't put on any weight at all this week. We determined that this was due to the fact that she wasn't having a feed every 2 to 3 hours at night like she had been for the past 2 months.

Ruby also had her first try of veges today and loved them. She had a huge couple of tablespoons worth of pureed potatoes. Ruby gets very excited now when she sees mummy preparing her food and tries her hardest to grab the spoon off mummy to feed herself. We also gave Ruby a rusk to munch on and help wear her top gums down. The rusks don't last long, she chews so hard that they are soggy and broken in a few minutes, never mind mummy gets to finish them off and she doesn't think they taste to bad either.

Check out the photo of Ruby in the tub in her album, to cute to miss and little to rude for the blog. Here's another cute one from the last week....

Meet Nigel......

This is Nigel, the only fish that was caught on the fishing charter Roger and the boys went on for his 30th B'day

To celebrate mummy and daddy turning 30, mummy organised to have a weekend away at Noosa with her whole family so that the boys could go fishing with daddy and Aunty Taryn could jump out of a plane with Mummy. The jump never happened and the boys only caught one fish, all due to the crappy weather.

Otherwise, the weekend was a blast. Ruby got to spend lots of quality time with her Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles and even came away learning how to blow raspberries after watching Isabelle. Ruby was a star all weekend, (even with an eye infection that mummy gave her - bad mummy), sleeping in her jeep while everybody else paced up and down Hastings Street looking for somewhere to eat and even sleeping in daddy's arms at a cafe.

Ruby has had all her measurements done this morning as she is now 5 months old.

Weight - 7 300 grams / 16 pound 2 ounces
Height - 66 cm
Head circ - 41.3 cm

Ruby is just above the 75th percentile for her height and weight and dead on the 50th for her head circ. She has grown 4 cm in 4 weeks, which is alot according to the child health nurse. There hasn't been any more teeth showing up but her top gums are looking very swollen, so we don't think they are very far off.

Oh and check out the hair....

Starting solids

The big news for this week is that Ruby has had her first try of food other than mummy's milk. Ruby has taken to this like a duck to water. Mummy has only given Ruby rice cereal in the morning after she has had her first drink, this is just to see how she goes with the new texture and eating from a spoon. So far there has been no dramas but then the cereal is just a tiny bit thicker than milk, we will see how she fairs over the next couple of days when mummy thickens up the cereal.

Mummy is also very impressed as Ruby doesn't seem to be a messy eater (yet), unlike her cousin who's latest trick is to blow raspberries with a mouthful of food, very funny to watch but not so funny for Aunty Emma who gets to clean up.
As promised mummy has taken a video of Ruby in the jolly jumper, daddy also took a video which mummy is not very impressed with, both of these have been uploaded to Ruby's album.

Ruby loves the jumper and is now jumping everywhere, in your arms, on your legs and even when she is one her tummy. She gets her little knees underneath her and then she starts pushing up and down (hilarious to watch from the back of her), apparently this is the precursor to crawling, if only she would lift her head off the ground at the same time.

She is getting stronger in her back and neck and is now reaching for things above her, mummy and daddy really don't think it will be long before Ruby is moving around.
