I'm a new woman...

It's like someone swapped my baby in the middle of the night (not last night, I would have noticed, we were awake for most of it).

Ruby has gone from being irritable most of the day and screaming most evenings, to being happy - even laughing (mostly when her pants are off).

Now we could put this new Ruby down to a couple events that happened this last week:
1. 3 trips to the Osteopath for alignments and tummy manipulations
2. the use of the best invention ever - the dummy. Yes, she finally took it.
3. Ruby has hit the magic 6 week mark that everyone talks about.
We have even been able to get her to go in her stroller, with a trip to the shops and the Coffee Club for 3 hours on Sunday....Hooray!

Ruby has also got a new nickname - Muffin! This is due to the size of her tummy that hangs over the top of her nappies. She has put on another 350 grams in the last week, taking her up to 4.5kg or 9lbs 9 ounces....check out the rolls in her arms and legs.
We also celebrated Uncle Simon's 23rd B'day by having a BBQ at our house on Saturday. Yes, that's the same day the temperature reached 38 degrees. Both Ruby and Isabelle survived to the surprise of everyone, especially since her Grandpa had gone silly from beer and was very keen to play rough games with the girls.

Quote of the week comes from Uncle Simon (see photo from previous post for reference):
'Who's that black baby laying with Isabelle on the play mat.'

I'm a big girl now!!!

This post is well over due, and we now have a bit of catching up to do. I'll try not to bore you with the minor details.....

Ruby is 5 weeks old now and has put on 500 grams in the last fortnight which brings her up to 4.2kg or 9 pound 4 ounces. Finally big enough to fit the 'All In One' cloth nappies we brought for her.

In the last fortnight Ruby has had a couple of trips to visit Grandma and Grandpa at the beach. Aunty Porsha dropped in for a visit at the beach and also came to hang out on the couch with us to watch some girly DVD's. Great Grandma Betty and Aunty Gai got to nurse me while I screamed the caravan park down with a tummy ache last Saturday. We have also been to a mothers group, where Ruby was the youngest by a few weeks, and a picinic where Ruby slept for the entire day....mental note, go on more picinics!

My poor little girl has had a lot of trouble with her tummy the last couple of weeks and has had days were she just cries and cries and then screams and screams. She doesn't like to be put on down to sleep (unless she has already been asleep for over an hour), and will generally only fall asleep when someone is nursing her upright. She won't go in her stroller for longer than 8 minutes (that's the longest so far) and has only recently been getting used to being on her playmat and bouncer - neither of these have had lasting effect, yet! My girl just likes to be cuddled. Which is why I am two weeks behind in doing this blog (and everything else).

We are off to see an Oeseopath tomorrow to see if and alignment will help her - fingers crossed. Otherwise, I have been told this should all pass when she reaches 3 months of age.

Here are some cute photos from the last fortnight.........check out Ruby's photo album for the rest.

Ruby's first trip to the beach

My girl is getting so big now. She weighed in on Wednesday at 8 pounds, that's another 300 grams in a week. Still not big enough to fit the cloth nappies we brought but it shouldn't be far off.

Ruby has had a few trips out and about this last week.....

On Monday we all went up to Grandma Sheila's house for dinner with Uncle Jamie, Aunty Emma and Isabelle. Poor Aunty Emma was very sick from a bug she picked up on their weekend away but both girls were very well behaved.

Tuesday we took a trip into the city to see all the people mummy worked with. Ruby woke up just as we got there and immediately went looking for the boob. Luckily there was an empty office we could use.

Thursday was a bad day. Ruby screamed and screamed most of the day with a sore belly. Eventually, she wore herself and mummy out at 3pm and they both slept (together) right through until 7:30pm.

On Friday Ruby had her first trip to Kingscliff to visit Grandma Dianne. Apart from a few cries on the way down in the car and a tantrum in the car on the way home, the trip went really well. Due to her bad day the day before, Ruby was so tired that she slept for 5 hours - which gave mummy and daddy and Grandma the opportunity to go to lunch and hit the shops and catch up on some sleep (for mummy). In the afternoon when the sun went down Ruby got to put her feet on the sand and get up close to the waves - while being awake. After waiting for Grandpa Lindsay to get home from work we eventually came home. Mummy says that we can go to the beach every day if Ruby is going to sleep like that.

On Saturday we went to see Great Grandma Alice and Grandma Sheila. Ruby cried and cried until mummy fed me (lots) and then I slept until all of mummys friends from AAA arrived. Then Ruby cried and cried some more. Poor mummy, everytime someone comes to visit, Ruby gets cranky and seems to constantly need feeding. It was lovely to see Kay-Lynn, Dorene, Adele and Andrew, it's just a shame that Ruby isn't very sociable yet.

It's daddy's first day back at work today, mummy wasn't looking forward to it at all. But so far so good..... or until daddy gets home.

We have a check up at the hospital first thing on Wednesday morning and then immediately after a visit with the Physio to check on Ruby's feet - they are turned in from being compacted in the womb. Mummy is a bit anxious about doing all of this on her own. Hopefully, Ruby won't be in a mood and scream the place down. Wish us luck.....
