Mumma and Dadda's little hot water bottle.....

What a week we've had.

It started on Monday afternoon with a trip to the doctors as Ruby was not happy when mummy picked her up from Grandma's. We weren't sure whether she was having issues with her teeth or she was coming down with something so off we went to the GP. She had a bit of a runny nose and was irritable and the doctor looked in her ears and throat but said that nothing was wrong and she just had a cold. He gave us a script for something to help her nose and sent us on our way. The drugs prescribed said to take every 6 - 8 hours and that they can make you drowsy. Ruby was so drowsy she couldn't even find mummy's nipple to latch on to for a drink - something she hasn't had any issues with since birth. She was also waking every half an hour screaming. As she was already dopey mummy didn't want to risk giving her panodol on top of what she had already given Ruby until the 6 hours were up. Ruby was so warm that even during the rain from the storm mummy had all the windows open and covers off - did I mention that she had come to bed with mummy and daddy by this stage as this usually helps her sleep. After trying really really hard not to wake daddy, eventually he woke up to see what was wrong with his girl. When he felt her, he jumped straight out of bed to take her temperature which had reached 38.8 degrees. It was now past the 6 hour mark and mummy said she could now have some panodol as the other drugs weren't working. After about 15 mins Daddy decided that we should take Ruby to emergency to find out what was wrong. So at 2am on Tuesday morning Ruby had her first visit to emergency.

The emergency room was so empty (due to the storm) that we walked straight in and had 3 nurses come to play with Ruby. By this stage the panodol had kicked in and Ruby was happy and her temp had come down. But her runny nose had gone from being clear to a thick green colour, which she had rubbed all over her face during the night. Mummy and daddy had no idea until we were in the harsh light at the hospital and our beautiful baby girl looked like she had dried avocado all over her face. In the end we were sent home (with a new teddy) and told to keep the panodol up to her and that she just had a virus.

Mummy had the day off work to spend with Ruby on Tuesday (Daddy went fishing after the trip to the hospital and then to work) and then Ruby was with Grandma on Wednesday. Everyone kept an eye on her and kept giving her the pain relief. As soon as it would wear off though, back would come the temperature. By Wednesday night the panodol wasn't working and by 5am Thursday morning Ruby was back to screaming and being inconsolable. After a few phone calls to health lines we were told Ruby should see a doctor within the next 1 to 4 hours. Luckily mummy managed to get an appt with her doctor.

After checking her over, Ruby's temp had reached 39.8 degrees by this stage, she told us that Ruby has two middle ear infections. We got a new prescription for antibiotics and some more pain relief.

It's now Saturday and the drugs seem to be finally working. Ruby is sleeping and is happy to play like normal. Her nose is still gross but hopefully it will continue to get better and mummy and daddy can catch up on some much needed sleep as well.

Oh no...Belinda that really bites. Poor Ruby. I hope those infections go away and her fever stays down.
Big hugs from Sophie, Paul and I.
Tell Ruby we'll catch up with her at the park soon.
